Tank Drains and Other Uses for Hoses in Above Ground Storage Tanks: The NISTM Presentation
During this year’s NISTM conference, our own Adam Vance spoke about Tank Drains and Other Uses for Hoses in Above Ground Storage Tanks.
The use of tank drains has been a part of the above ground storage tank industry for decades. Tank drains offer a primary critical function of evacuating water from external floating roof tanks. The removal of water ensures floating roofs maintain buoyancy which allows the floating roof to perform as designed. This presentation discusses the options for tank drains currently available in the industry and the differences in operation. Adam goes over environmental and tank information that is required for proper design, sizing, and installation of the tank drain for worry free operation. Additionally, tank drain hoses can perform other critical functions beyond water evacuation that can include uses in internal floating roof tanks. The presentation offers a wide view of the value and potential uses of tank drains while providing the audience tools to gain an understanding of robust and sound design practices for hoses.
In the presentation, Adam went over:
- Tank drains and what they do
- Options for tank drain designs
- Proper sizing and design of tank drains
- Other valuable uses for hoses like skimmers, fire suppression, some of which can be used on internal tanks
